The choir, whose home is St. Margaret's Church, Thorpe Market, was formed in 1997, initially simply to sing Stainer's "The "Crucifixion" on Good Friday. The church owns a demountable staging system which allows 40+ singers to perform in tiered ranks in the Chancel. The choir meets on Thursday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30 p.m. in the autumn and spring. Numbering in excess of 45 members, choir evenings are friendly, informal, and no auditions required! Whilst we have a few experienced singers, many of our current membership have little previous choral experience - so do come and give it a try! All music copies are provided and we always have a "tea break".
Cantamus Community Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music (www.rscm.com). There are usually four concerts each year from the popular choral repertoire. Recently we have performed Vivaldi's "Gloria" with a selection of anthems and also Handel's "Messiah" with christmas carols.
